VW unveils E-Bugster Speedster concept

The German automaker Volkswagen has released the first official photos with the E-Bugster Speedster concept which will make its public debut next week during the Auto China event in Beijing. This would have to be a revised roofless version of the car shown at the beginning of this year in Detroit.

This concept is motivated by an electric motor which is capable of producing 114 hp (116 PS / 85 kW) which allows the vehicle to do the 0-62 mph sprint in a decent 10.8 seconds. Its lithium-ion battery has a 28.3 kWh capacity and it can be recharged via either standard or ultrafast DC charging methods. The E-Bugster also benefits from the KERS (kinetic energy recovery system) to charge, just about the same way as F1 cars do.

In comparison to the production version of the Beetle, this concept is 30mm longer and 90mm lower so it has a more sporty appearance. The design has remained pretty much the same, while some features include LED headlights and LED daytime running lights.

We can only assume that later on this year, most likely at the Paris or Los Angeles Motor Show, Volkswagen is going to reveal the production version of the convertible Beetle.
