Volvo S60 Polestar Performance Concept Revealed

With the occasion of this year’s Göteborg City Race, Volvo and Polestar have unveiled the highly anticipated hot version of the S60 which for now remains only as a concept. The car was developed as a one-off for an unknown client but there are some chances that the Swedish automaker will manufacture a small series “pending market response”. What this means is that if you want it and you have the money most likely they’ll built it for you.

Despite the fact that rumors suggested that the car is powered by Yamaha-built V8 engine that is found under the hood of the XC90, this S60 Polestar Performance Concept is actually based on the S60 T6. The standard version of the car has a 6-cylinder, turbocharged 3.0-liter unit that pumps out 300 hp which are sent to all four wheels, allowing the car to do the 0-62 mph sprint in a decent 6.1 seconds, on its way to a maximum speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

As you would expect, this engine has suffered a lot of modifications, such as in the combustion chambers, cylinder head, air intake, inlet manifold, as well as mounting a bigger Garret 3171 turbo. The end result is quite impressive as the engine now develops no less than 508 hp @ 6,500 rpm and has a peak torque of 424 lb.-ft (575 Nm) available at 5,500 rpm.

It doesn’t end here as the engineers from Polestar have reinforced, widened and lowered the chassis of this hot S60, along with tuning the Haldex AWD system, as well as the Öhlins suspension. That horsepower is sent to the wheels with the help of a six-speed manual transmission while the stopping power is provided by the larger Brembo brakes.

Thanks to all of these modifications, the Volvo S60 Polestar Performance Concept is capable of performing the 0-62 mph sprint in only 3.9 seconds, en route to a top speed of more than 186 mph (300 km/h).

The body of the regular S60 has been heavily modified as the its now 20mm wider on both ends, while the newly developed styling kit has flared wheel arches that are covering the 19-inch alloy wheels which are wrapped around in 265/30 R19 tires. Also new is the front bumper which now has a splitter, while the side skirts have been redesigned. We also notice the rear bumper which features a diffuser, while also at the back is a boot lid spoiler.

Inside the cabin of this one-off hot S60 there are Polestar-designed sport seats which provide additional support, along with Alcantara for all of the functional areas, like the gear knob, steering wheel and the seats. In addition, the center console has been lowered in order to improve the gear lever ergonomics.
