The guys over at Autocar.co.uk have managed to grab a few spy shots with the upcoming hot version of the Audi A1. This prototype of the S1 was photographed while undergoing some test in Germany, before the car’s public debut which will occur at next year’s edition of the Geneva Motor Show. It will most likely get a new iteration of the company’s EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and it will have the quattro system.
This power unit will get the automaker’s valve-lift system and it will develop somewhere around 220 hp, which is 38 hp more in comparison to the Audi A1 1.4 TFSI that packs a 4-cylinder, 1.4-liter turbocharged engine. However, it’s still 32 hp less that the A1 quattro limited edition which has already been sold out as Audi managed to sell all 333 units.
Mated to this engine is going to be a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard or the optional 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The upcoming Audi S1 should be able to do the 0-62 mph sprint in about six and a half seconds.
