A New Pebble Beach Sale Record

Last week, the Pebble Beach Concurs d’Elegance opened its doors for all classic car fans and managed to exhibit a wide variety of stunning and exclusive vehicles. During this event were also organized various classic car auctions which were held by well known auction houses from all around the world. These auction houses tried to impress the event’s participants by bringing rare and exquisite classic cars.

One of the cars that were in the spotlight this year is the 1967 Ford GT40 Gulf/Mirage used in a movie by Steve McQueen. This car was listed on the RM auction list of classic cars and has an impressive history. This Ford GT40 is a racing car which started its “racing career” by winning the 1967 Spa competition. It impresses with an elegant and breathtaking exterior and a high quality interior. This car is one of the only two surviving models of this kind equipped with a V8 engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and manages to deliver up to 440bhp.

The extra value of the car was added by Steve McQueen who used this car in a 1971 movie called “Le Mans”. Initially, RM’s officials estimated that this classic racing car will bring around $8 million, but in the end the elegant Ford managed to get sold for the fabulous amount of $11 million which doesn’t include the auction house’s fees. As a result, this 1967 Ford GT40 has become the most expensive US vehicle ever sold, dethroning the Duesenberg Model-J Long Wheelbase coupe which was sold last year for $10.34 million.
