Back in June this year DreamWorks confirmed that there will be a Need for Speed movie, the production company has announced that the motion picture will make its debut on February 7, 2014 when it will hit theaters from all over the world. The production of the film will start at the beginning of 2013 and it will be directed by Scott Waugh who was also in charge of directing Act of Valor.
As far as the screenplay is concerned, this is being developed by brothers John (Real Steel) and George Gatins (She’s Out of My League). As you would expect, the movie will be based on the popular game franchise but it won’t be based on any of the individual games in the long-running series.
The creators of the Need for Speed motion picture are hoping that the movie will be a success and it will lead to a few sequels, just like the Fast and Furious franchise. Speaking of which, the sixth installment of Fast and Furious will reach the theaters in May 2013.
Regarding the NFS game, the game’s publisher Electronic Arts is preparing the launch of a reboot for Most Wanted which is under development at British games studio Criterion Games, the same team that launched the popular Burnout games. The new game was announced back on June 4 during EA’s E3 conference and it represents the 19th game in the series. Most Wanted is scheduled to come out on October 30, 2012 on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
