The Japanese automaker Mazda has brought to the Auto Mobil International Show in Leipzig, Germany an interesting MX-5 prototype. It’s called the Yusho which in Japanese means “victory” and it wears a matte white paint which we find to be very attractive. The car rides on 17-inch anthracite gray alloys that are covered in Toyo Proxes R888 semi-click tires that measure 215/45 R17.
Other changes in comparison to the standard Miata include the boot lid spoiler, a lowered suspension, along with the rear diffuser made from carbon fiber which incorporates the twin tailpipes that are mounted centrally.
The major modification can be noticed under the hood where the MZR 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter gasoline engine has received a supercharger, special Cosworth pistons and connecting rods, an intercooler, a reprogrammed engine software and a custom exhaust system. There’s more to the story as Mazda has also installed metal sport catalysts, new fuel injectors and an improved gearbox that has a sports clutch.
Thanks to this long list of modifications, the power of the engine has been increased from 158 hp to 237 hp at 6,800 rpm. As you would expect, the torque is also up from 138 lb.-ft (188 Nm) to 202 lb.-ft (274 Nm). Mazda mentioned that the car is now capable of reaching a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h).
Other changes worth listing include lowering springs, large stabilizer bars and the Bilstein absorbers. The cabin of this Mazda MX-5 Yusho features Recaro sport seats wrapped around in Alcantara and leather, along with a suede-trimmed steering wheel.
No word at the moment regarding the possibility of putting this car into production so for now it remains only a concept.
