The German automaker Opel has revealed the sedan version of the fourth-gen Astra which joins the lineup alongside the 5-door hatchback, the Sport Tourer wagon and the hot GTC coupe. The company expects that this new model will be popular in Germany and Spain, but at the same time they hope that it will be sold in larger numbers in comparison to previous generations in countries from Eastern and Central Europe, especially in Russia and Turkey. At the moment, Russians by 60% of all sedans that are sold in Europe, while in 2014 it is expected to become the main market with no less than 3.4 million cars sold.
The new Opel Astra sedan measures 4,658 mm long, 1,814 mm wide and 1,476 mm tall while the wheelbase is of 2,685 mm. The car offers a trunk capacity of 460 liters while if you fold down the 60:40 rear seats, the capacity is increased to an impressive 1,010 liters.
Upon launch, Opel will offer seven engines for the new Astra Sedan, four on gasoline and three diesels. The gasoline power units will have an output that ranges between 100 hp and 180 hp, while the diesels output from 95 hp to 130 hp. Two of the engines are frugal 1.7 CDTI that power the Astra Sedan ecoFLEX versions and benefit from the stop/start system as well as other features for improving efficiency. The outputs of these two engines is 110 hp and 130 hp. Three of the gasoline engines will be offered with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
